After more than 14 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Sgt Nicolas Moreau, CD, will retire on 22 April 2024. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to WO S.W. Eason at Sheldon.Eason@forces.gc.ca.
Sgt Nicolas Moreau was born in Louiseville, QC, in February 1988. He was raised in Berthierville, QC, a suburb of Montréal, with his sister, Alexandra, and his brother Frederick. He completed elementary and high school in Berthierville and had a conventional childhood with two parents who are still together and living in the same place. While growing up, Sgt Moreau participated in sport leagues, playing hockey, football. and soccer.
Sgt Moreau completed a 3-year college course at the CÉGEP Régional de Lanaudière à Joliette, studying business management. He started a degree in management at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières but left to work in commercial sales in IT development for factories in Montréal. During his studies, Sgt Moreau worked as general labour in many places around Montréal, such as factories, groceries, butcher shops, tobacco farms, and milk farms. These jobs provided him with a variety of experience in different fields, allowing him to better consider his career choices.
Sgt Moreau joined the CAF in October 2009 in Trois-Rivières, QC. Following the completion of Combat Engineer training, he was posted to 5 RGC in CFB Valcartier, QC. He deployed two times for Op LENTUS to help civilians in flooded areas. He has been a section member, section driver, CP driver, and squad MT Rep and qualified as a heavy equipment operator in 2014. He deployed as heavy equipment operator in 2015 on OP IMPACT, working on different NATO air bases in the area. Sgt Moreau was posted to CFSME as an instructor in 2017 and since then, has completed a variety of tasks related to training including earning the title of Certified Technician (CTech) through the provincial association (NBSCETT).
For transition, Sgt Moreau is currently completing a university degree in Construction Management at Dalhousie University and is also completing modules for the PMP certification. Working with heavy equipment and supervising projects allowed him to learn about construction. In two years, he hopes to run a consulting business in
construction, leading construction and conducting QA/QC for real estate development. He plans to keep a foot in the Army with occasional Callian and Valcom contracts on base.
Sgt Moreau has three children, Léonie, Camille and Victor and has been with his partner, Alexandra, since high school. They currently live in New Maryland, NB, and plan to remain in the Fredericton area.
