We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Guy Malfait, CD (Ret’d), at home in Gatineau QC on 31 December 2023 at age 61 after a long illness.

Guy was born in Montreal and enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Infanteer with the R22eR in Valcartier QC just after his 19th birthday. During his posting with R22eR, Guy deployed to Cyprus in 1985. Shortly after that deployment, Guy joined the Canadian Military Engineers when he made an Occupational Transfer to Construction Engineer Technician (CE Tech)  in August 1986. As a CE Tech, he was posted to Canadian Forces Bases Valcartier QC,  Gander NL, and Suffield AB. Guy made a second Occupational Transfer, in February 1997, this time to Geomatics Technician (Geo Tech). Guy spent the remainder of his career in Ottawa at Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE). While with MCE, he  deployed twice, first to Bosnia in 2000 and then to Afghanistan in 2002.

Guy was released from the Canadian Forces in 2009 after 28 years of service. Upon his release, Guy started work in the Public Service at the MCE Map Depot and served with them until 2018.

A celebration of Guy’s life will be held on Saturday, 9 March 2024 at 10:00a.m. at the Coopérative Funéraire de l'outaouais  { 750 Maloney Boulevard East in Gatineau} . The family will receive condolences starting at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
