Sgt Gerhard Hans “Gerry” Mack, CD (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Gerhard Hans “Gerry” Mack, CD (Ret’d) of Chilliwack BC, peacefully on 30 January 2022 at the age of 68 years.
Gerry enlisted in the Canadian Forces in 1974 and served in the Canadian Forces for some 20 years as a Canadian Military Engineer. After completing his basic Field Engineer training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC, he was posted ‘across the road’ to 3 Field Squadron (1974/77). This was followed by his first posting to 4 Combat Engineer Regiment (4 CER) in Lahr Germany (1978/82). Gerry returned to Canada and Chilliwack in 1982 for a tour with Base Ops (1982/85) before returning to 4 CER for a second tour (1985/88). On his return to Canada from Germany, he joined the staff of the Explosive Ordnance School in Canadian Forces Base Borden, ON (1988/91). Gerry was then back to Chilliwack for a second tour with Base Ops(1991/92) as his last posting before retiring from the Canadian Forces at the rank of Master Corporal.
After retiring from the CF, Gerry attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology and achieved his Construction Engineering Technologist qualification. He opened his own business “GM Civ/Tech Services” in 1996 and did small subdivision planning and road building. He became an expert in wastewater management where he specialized in Innovative Septic Systems that were used for homes and small businesses. Gerry obtained his "Limited Engineer's License" in 2019.
Gerry joined 192 Airfield Engineer Flight in Aldergrove BC as a Reservist after his retirement from the Regular Force and served with them for 18 years. He loved to travel, learned to sail and taught sailing, as well other interests.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Gerry's name to Children's Hospital. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at the funeral home website.
