    We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Francis ‘Walter’ Pilon, CD (Ret’d) on 16 December 2019 at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, NS.

    Born in Verdun, QC, Walter enlisted during the Second World War as a boy soldier in 1943 at age of 16. After the war he transferred to the Permanent Force and  served a full career of almost 30 years with the Royal Canadian Engineers as a Draftsman. Walter retired from active service in 1972 having attained the rank of Master Warrant Officer. During his career, he was posted to locations that included Kingston ON, Fredericton NB, London ON, Whitehorse YT and Chilliwack BC before returning to Nova Scotia.

    Walter and his wife Audrey built their home in Sheldrake Lake in 1973 and resided there for the rest of their lives. Walter transitioned to a second career as a Public Servant with the Department of National Defence where he continued his professional life as a Draftsman.

    Visitation will be Friday, 20 December 2019 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., both at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.  Donations in Walter’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences can be sent online to the Funeral Home
