    We regret to advise of the death of Major R. Stanley Goat, CD (Ret'd) on 6 January 2011.

    Born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, in 1927, Stan was evacuated to Canada 1940 under the U.K. Government's wartime "Children's Overseas Reception Board Scheme" and spent the war years at Sackville High School and the University of New Brunswick where he graduated 1947 - BSc Civil Engineering. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1947 and served a full career in a variety of appointments in Canada (including the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering and the Northwest Highway System), USA, England, Germany, and in Viet Nam with the International Commission for Supervision and Control.

    Stan retired in 1975 with the rank of Major and moved back to England. He toured extensively in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Western and Central Europe and the Middle East for a period of six and one-half years. Returning to Canada in 1981, he traveled Canada, the United States, and Mexico for a further three and one-half years and then settled in Ottawa in 1985.

    Following cremation, interment will be in The National Military Cemetery (Beechwood). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
