Major-General (Ret’d) Daniel Benjamin is a Military Engineer who has served in the Canadian Forces for more than 35 years. He joined in 1976 and graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston in 1981 with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He returned to RMC in 1986 to complete a master's degree in Geotechnics and teach structural design to undergraduate students. His military career highlights include command of a special UN demining operation in Cyprus in 1983, command of the 5th Combat Engineer Regiment during the SAGUENAY flood in 1996, command of a Composite Engineer Group in Montreal during the Ice Storm in 1998, and command of the first Canadian Contingent in the Central African Republic, also in 1998. From 2001 to 2003, he commanded the 5th Area Support Group in Land Force Quebec Area and was responsible for the Bases of Valcartier, Montreal and St-Jean. He then became founder and first Commander of the Canadian Operational Support Command with which he supported all Canadian Forces Operations Worldwide. He was appointed Officer of the Order of Military Merit (OMM) in 2004 and then promoted Commander (CMM) in 2008. He completed his military career in 2011 as the Canadian Forces Chief Military Engineer and Chief of Staff (Infrastructure and Environment). He then became Vice-President Operations for Defence Construction Canada from 2011 to 2018, delivering National Defence Infrastructure and Environment Projects for a billion dollar yearly average. He has was appointed Colonel Commandant of the Canadian Military Engineers as of April 2021.
