Last week on the 28th and 29th of November the CMEA hosted a very successful two-day conference at the Army Ottawa Officers’ Mess. The theme of the conference was “Strong, Secure, Engaged – Canada’s New Defence Policy and the Engineers.” Day One comprised formal presentations and discussions that examined the impact of the 2017 Strong, Secure, Engaged Defence Policy (SSE). In 2016, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and his family visited the site of a First World War battle of which most Canadians are probably unaware. Three brothers from Goderich, Ontario fought in the First World War - two as infantrymen and two as sappers. Only one returned home. A fourth brother had emigrated to Australian and survived Gallipoli and the Somme.

MWO Ryan Vincent (vice-President Edmonton Chapter CMEA) and Ralph Gienow (Secretary/Treasurer Edmonton Chapter CMEA) present MWO Marshall Dumont, of 1 Combat Engineer Regiment, with a plaque from the CMEA Edmonton Chapter at his Depart With Dignity Ceremony on 19 Oct 2018.
