CWO Ottmar Kiltz was born in Stari-Vrbas, Yugoslavia (now Serbia) and immigrated to Canada in 1954. He enrolled as a Sapper in the Canadian Army on 15 October 1956 and was posted to the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering (RCSME) in Camp Chilliwack, BC for field engineer training. On completion of this training, he was posted to the staff of RCSME in the Military Engineering Squadron Demonstration Troop. In 1958 he was posted to 3 Field Squadron in Chilliwack, was promoted Lance Corporal, and served for three years. In 1961 he was promoted to Corporal and returned to the RCSME as an instructor in the Recruit Squadron.
In 1968 CWO Kiltz was posted to 4 Field Squadron in Werl, Germany, was promoted to Sergeant in January 1969 and was with the unit when it relocated to Lahr, Germany in 1970. In 1971, he was promoted Warrant Officer and posted to 5 Escadron du Génie de Campagne in Valcartier, QC. While there he was promoted to the rank of Master Warrant Officer in December 1973 and in the summer of 1974 returned to 4 Field Squadron in Lahr as the Squadron Sergeant Major.
CWO Kiltz was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer in August 1976. Upon returning to Canada in 1977, CWO Kiltz was posted to National Defence Headquarters in the Life-cycle Management section for Field Engineer construction and mine warfare equipment. In 1980 he was posted to Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack as the Base Chief Warrant Officer for the next three years. In 1983 he returned to NDHQ to the Directorate of Military Engineering Operations where he was appointed as the third Canadian Military Engineering Branch Chief Warrant Officer in 1983. CWO Kiltz was commissioned and in May 1987 was posted to Vancouver as a member of the Regular Support Staff Pacific Region. He took his release in Jan 1990 with the rank of Captain and retired in Kelowna, BC.
