On this day in 1945, Sgt Mervin Durham, 9th Fd Sqn, RCE completed the bridge dubbed 'The Mad Whore's Dream' in support of the 4th Armd Div's attack on the village of Kapelsche Veer after four desperate days of working under German observation and fire. Sgt Durham was awarded the Military Medal for bravery and leadership.
