On this day in 1944, Spr Frank Collins was operating an armoured bulldozer with B Sqn, 1 Aslt Regt supporting 11th Canadian Infantry Brigade crossing the Fosson Munio in Northern Italy. He was awarded a Distinguish Conduct Medal for working under intense fire in building the crossing. Three tanks were lost in the smoke and fire, but Collins kept working until the assault was successful and the enemy defeated.
