Sergeant Shiu volunteered for special operations behind the enemy lines in the Orient, and played an active part in OPERATION SEMUT III, carried out by the Australian army. This involved Sergeant Shiu being dropped by air into the Japanese-held territory in the Rejang River area of Sawawak, Borneo, at a point neat Kapit. There Sergeant Shiu established communications with patrols and with the headquarters of 9th Australian Division at Labuan. His untiring efforts, his skill and efficiency contributed largely to the uninterrupted maintenance of vital communications, producing valuable intelligence from behind the enemy's lines, and to the success of operations generally. DAC: All I can find about Jimmie Shiu says he was in the Armoured Corps.
