After more than 31 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, CWO M.G. Rosales, CD, (00381) will retire on 15 September 2026.

Chief Warrant Officer Mario Rosales was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Combat Engineer, May 1995. After the completion of trade training, was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa from 1995 – 2002 where his course formed the new 24 Field Squadron, 4 Troop. He was part of the Paratrooper Section, earning the Canadian and American jump wings, as well as a jungle warfare qualification at Fort Sherman, Panama. During this posting he was afforded the opportunity to deploy on Op Kinetic ROTO 1 Kosovo Dec 1999 – May 2000.
CWO Rosales decided to leave the Combat Engineers and remastered to Water, Fuel, and Environmental Tech in 2002, upon completion of his trade training which took places at CFSME Gagetown and Nova Scotia Community College in Nova Scotia and was posted to 25 Field Squadron 2 Area Construction Troop. Upon promotion to Master Corporal, he was posted to 86 Airfield Systems and Utilities (ASU) from Jul 2005 to Jul 2008. During this time, he went to CFS Alert as the Water, Fuel and Environmental Tech, Feb – Aug 2006, taking care of the potable water for the station and commissioning a new jet fuel line. During his time at 86 ASU, he deployed to various provinces to work on fuel tanks, water reservoirs and wastewater treatment plants. Promoted to Sgt and posted to 22 Wing North Bay Base Construction Engineer as a Water, Fuels and Environmental Tech Supervisor from Jul 2008 to Jul 2012. During this posting he oversaw the Under Ground Compound potable water reservoirs, its water discharge and HAZMAT. Returned to CFS Alert for Box Top. Posted to CFS St. John’s Newfoundland from Jul 2012 to Jul 2017 as the Station Construction Engineer Officer. During his time at CFS St. John’s he oversaw the daily maintenance of the Station, training areas as well as HMCS Cabot. He oversaw the transition in 2014 from the old administration buildings and lodger Units to the newly constructed Surgeon Lieutenant-Commander W. Anthony Paddon Building. Promoted to WO in 2014 and to MWO in 2017. Upon promotion to MWO in 2017 he was posted to 4 Wing Cold Lake as the 4 MSS CE MWO from Sep 2017 to Feb 2020. While in this position he deployed to Op IMPACT, Nov 2018 – May 2019 ROTO 8, halfway through the tour it became ROTO 0. He also spent some time in Iraq at Camp Erbil.
Posted to RPOU (Ontario) Toronto Section from Feb 2020 – May 2024, assuming the duties of RPOU Toronto Section SSM. During this posting he had the opportunity to deploy to JTF Op IMPACT ROTO 3 from July 2021 – July 2022 as the Camp SM, once again he visited Erbil and Bagdad. While at RPOU Toronto Section he worked alongside with DCC on two Facility Management contracts that went to different contractors. Posted to RPOU (West) Wainwright Detachment (WD) from May – July 2024 as the RPOU (W) WD SSM. Promoted to their current rank of CWO in July 2024 and posted to 8 wing Trenton as the 8 MSS CWO in July 2024. CWO Rosales is married to his wife of 15 years, Nancy. Together they have a combined family of one son, Christoper, married with a 5-year-old daughter, and four daughters: Abigail, Cynthia, married to a CAF member with a baby daughter, Monica and Julia.
