Additions/Amendments Of Qualifying Service - Service Medals

  1. The CDS, in consultation with AFC, has approved the following amendments to the recognition for Defence Team members deployed in the Middle East and serving within TF-ME effective 30 Nov 2024 (last day of current eligibility being 29 Nov 2024):
  1. Cease awarding the GSM-EXP to personnel deployed to Saudi Arabia and award the OSM-EXP as follows:
    • Service of members of the Defence Team deployed with the Canadian Detachment Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), United States Air Force, Air Expeditionary Wing, Prince Sultan Air Base, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, since 30 Nov 2024.
  2. Cease awarding the GSM-EXP to personnel deployed to the United Arab Emirates and award the OSM-EXP as follows:
    • Service of members of the Defence Team deployed with the Canadian Detachment, United States Air Force, Air Expeditionary Wing, Al Dhafra Air Base, United Arab Emirates, since 30 Nov 2024.
  1. The CDS, in consultation with AFC, has approved the amendment of the following element to the Operational Service Medal - Haiti (OSM-H) eligibility list:
    • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the OSM regulations (which include among others CAF members, police officers, and public servants) in all of Haiti’s national territory including with, but not limited to, the Canadian Embassy in Port-au-Prince, the Interdepartmental Task Force (IDTF)-Haiti, comprised of the Technical Assistance Mission (Haiti TAM), later renamed the Haiti Field Unit Mission (HFU), then International Security Assistance Coordination Group for Haiti (ISACG), since 7 Jun 2022.
  2. The CDS, in consultation with AFC, has approved additions to the eligibility lists for certain service medals for Op LUMEN as follows:
  1. Operational Service Medal - Humanitas (OSM-HUM):
    • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the OSM regulations (which include among others CAF members in direct support of Op LUMEN, police officers, and public servants) deployed to Egypt, Israel, or Lebanon in support of the evacuation of Canadian entitled persons and foreign nationals from Egypt, Israel, and Lebanon, from 12 Oct 2023 to 5 Jun 2024.
  2. Special Service Medal - Expedition (SSM-EXP):
  • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the SSM regulations deployed to Cyprus or Greece in direct support of the evacuation of Canadian entitled persons and foreign nationals from Egypt, Israel, and Lebanon (Op LUMEN), from 12 Oct 2023 to 5 Jun 2024. Aircrew flying into Egypt, Israel, or Lebanon as part of Op LUMEN credit those days for the OSM-EXP and shall not count those days for the SSM-EXP.
  1. The CDS, in consultation with AFC, has approved additions to the eligibility lists for certain service medals for Op GLOBE 24-07 as follows:
  1. Operational Service Medal - Humanitas (OSM-HUM):
  • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the OSM regulations (which include among others CAF members in direct support of Op GLOBE 24-07 (Conplan ANGLE), police officers, and public servants) deployed to Lebanon, Israel, or the West Bank in direct support of the evacuation of Canadian entitled persons and foreign nationals from Lebanon, Israel, and the West Bank, since 15 Jul 2024.
  1. Special Service Medal - Expedition (SSM-EXP):
  • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the SSM regulations deployed to Cyprus or Greece in direct support of the evacuation of Canadian entitled persons and foreign nationals from Lebanon, Israel, and the West Bank (Op GLOBE 24-07 (Conplan ANGLE)), since 15 Jul 2024. Aircrew flying into Israel, Lebanon, or the West Bank as part of Op GLOBE 24-07 (Conplan ANGLE) credit those days for the OSM-EXP and shall not count those days for the SSM-EXP.
  1. The CDS, in consultation with AFC, has approved additions to the eligibility lists for certain service medals for Op FREQUENCE as follows:
  1. Operational Service Medal - Expedition (OSM-EXP):
  • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the OSM regulations (which include among others CAF members in direct support of French Ops Barkhane and Marne, CAF Op FREQUENCE, police officers, and public servants) deployed to Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, or Sudan, in support of the French government’s regional counterterrorism and capacity building efforts in the Sahel region of Africa, since 27 Jan 2020.
  1. Special Service Medal - Expedition (SSM-EXP):
  • Service of eligible persons in accordance with the SSM regulations deployed to France, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Eritrea, Gambia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Benin, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Togo, or other similarly safe support locations, outside of Canada and its territorial airspace and waters, in direct support of the French government’s regional counterterrorism and capacity building efforts in the Sahel region of Africa (French Ops Barkhane and Marne, CAF Op FREQUENCE), since 27 Jan 2020. Aircrew flying into Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Sudan as part of Op FREQUENCE credit those days for the OSM-EXP and shall not count those days for the SSM-EXP.
  1. The CDS, in consultation with AFC, has approved additions to the Special Service Medal - Expedition as follows:
  1. Service of members of the Defence Team deployed under Op HORIZON into the approved Indo-Pacific Joint Operations Area for this operation, since 31 May 2023.
  2. Service of members of the Defence Team deployed to Ramstein, Germany, to conduct patient movement in direct support of United States Operation Inherent Resolve (CAF Op ORION), since 1 Jan 2022.
