After more than 27 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers Branch, Maj Stephen Sultana, CD, will retire on 05 August 2022. A Depart with Dignity will be held on 11 August 2022 starting at noon at the Army Officers’ Mess in Ottawa, 149 Somerset St W. At hot buffet will be served at a cost of $25 per person. Major Stephen Sultana joined the Canadian Armed Forces in June 1994 as a Private in the Communications Reserve.
In June 1995, Major Sultana transferred to the Regular Force as an Officer Cadet in the Royal Canadian Engineers Branch. He attended Royal Military College of Canada and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his Commission to Second Lieutenant in 1999.
Following the completion of his training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown New Brunswick, Major Sultana was posted to 2 Combat Engineer Regiment in Petawawa, Ontario. While at 2 CER, he was promoted to Captain, commanded 1 Field Troop and Heavy Equipment Troop, and was the Operations Officer for 23 Field Squadron.
After a tour in the former Yugoslavia as the Engineering Officer for the National Support Element, he was posted to Toronto and filled numerous positions including the Construction Engineering Officer for Area Support Unit Toronto. While in Toronto, he graduated from the Land Force Command and Staff College, became a licensed Professional Engineer, completed his Master’s Degree in Business Administration, and was promoted to his current rank of Major.
In 2012, he was posted to Edmonton, Alberta, and commanded the Engineer Services Squadron. After two years out West, he returned to Toronto as the Deputy Commanding Officer for 4 Canadian Division Support Group, Engineer Services Unit, during the transition to Real Property Operations Unit Ontario.
In 2016, Major Sultana was posted to Ottawa to the J3 branch of Real Property Operations Group HQ and in 2018, moved over to Material Group as the Section Head for Combat Engineer Equipment In-Service Support. During his tenure in Ottawa, he graduated from the Joint Command and Staff Program.
After 27 years of service in the Regular Force, Major Sultana will be transitioning to the Public Service as a Senior Project Manager in the Directorate of Construction Project Delivery.
Maj Sultana will remain in Kanata with his wife, Mary, and two daughters, Kirsten (13) and Audrey (11).
