    We regret to advise of the death of Chief Warrant Officer James Melvin "Mel" Ullett, CD (Ret’d), a resident of Perley Rideau Veterans Home in Ottawa ON, peacefully, on 2 December 2019 at the age of 93.  Mel was a WW II veteran who served with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve (Atlantic) May 1944 Feb 1946.

    After the war Mel worked with RL Crain as a pressman until he re-enlisted in 1948 with the Royal Canadian Engineers and joined the Army Survey Establishment. He was a Map Reproduction Technician who specialized in the Printing Press room where he was supervisor. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1953 and Warrant Officer in 1965. Mel was twice the unit Regimental Sergeant Major of Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE)…first in 1973-1976 and then again 1978-1979….between which appointments he was MCE Administrative Officer.  Mel wrote great research papers on military mapping prior to 1978 and received the Centennial Medal in 1967 as a WO2, and the Jubilee Medal in 1978 as a CWO.
