Cpl Lawrence George Ross, CD (Ret'd)

We regret to advise of the death of Corporal Lawrence George Ross. CD (Ret’d) in Grande Prairie, AB, on 8 December 2018, at the age of 89 years.
Lawrence was born in Camrose, AB. He grew up on a half section of land in Duhamel, AB and helped build the family house on their land. In 1945 the family moved to Port Coquitlam, BC.
Lawrence joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1949 and was initially posted to Ladner, BC. He left the Army for a year in 1952, and re-joined in 1953. Lawrence then served in Korea (1954-1955), Egypt (1960- 1961), Gagetown NB, and Wainwright AB. In 1965 he spent six months in Canadian Forces Station Alert, NU.
Lawrence retired as a Corporal in Chilliwack, BC in 1972 after 21 years of service. Upon retirement he moved his family to Hope, BC where he started Ross Propane and ran the company until 1976. Lawrence also started Ross Trucking with his son David in 1975. With a slowdown in the lumber industry, Lawrence relocated his business to Grande Prairie in 1980 and settled in Wembley, AB.
Lawrence retired in 1992 and traveled across Canada and Alaska. Lawrence and his wife Agnes moved to Wild Rose Manor in 2013.
