We regret to advise of the death of Corporal James McAlpine, CD, (Ret'd) a Geomatics Technician with Mapping and Charting Establishment, Ottawa, who died on 8 February 2011 at age 32.while participating in a Regional Hockey Tournament in Valcartier, QC.
James McAlpine was born in Oromocto, NB in 1979 and enrolled in Ottawa in September 1998. He chose the Infantry as his first career and completed basic training in St-Jean before being dispatched to CFB Valcartier to begin training at the Battle School. After graduation, he joined the 2nd Battalion Royal 22nd Regiment. His deployments include Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Roto 10, Op PALLADIUM in 2002 and Afghanistan as part of Op ARCHER in 2006-2007. James was promoted to Sergeant in December of 2007. Geography and applied sciences always greatly interested James and led to his remuster to a Geomatics Technician and joining the Mapping and Charting Establishment.
Visitation will take place at Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset St West, Ottawa on Friday 18 February from 1400hrs to 1700hrs and 1900hrs to 2100hrs and Saturday morning 19 February from 0800hrs to 1000hrs. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday 19 February at 1100hrs at the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica, 385 Sussex Dr., Ottawa. The internment ceremony will be held Saturday 19 February at 1230hrs at Beechwood National Military Cemetery at 280 Beechwood Ave, Ottawa. Reception at Beechwood following interment.
