Cpl George Flynn (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Corporal George Flynn (Ret’d) of Maple Ridge BC on 2 November 2019 at the age of 100 years.
Born was born on the family farm in Moosomin SK, the youngest of twelve children. When he was only 17, he travelled west to Vancouver where he was employed as a carpenter for a few years before enlisting in the Royal Canadian Engineers in November 1940. He was assigned to the 16th Field Company and trained in England and Scotland. He landed in Normandy on 6 June 1944 and fought through France, Belgium and Holland.
After returning home, George settled on a 20-acre blueberry farm in Pitt Meadows BC. He worked for Fraser River Pile and Dredge, joining the Piledrivers, Divers, Bridge, Dock and Wharf Builders Local 2404 in 1948. He retired in 1982. George was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Maple Ridge BC Branch
