    We regret to advise of the death of Colonel Henry Richard "Dick" Bohne, CD (Ret’d) 0n 4 April 2023, peacefully in his 94th year.

    Born in Bassano AB, his family lived in Gem, Hussar, Bassano, and finally Medicine Hat where he finished high school. Dick attended Royal Roads and graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston in 1953. Commissioned in the Royal Canadian Engineers, he soon deployed to Korea with 59th Canadian Independent Field Squadron. After spending a year in the Korean War, he returned to the University of British Columbia and graduated in 1955 with a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering.

    For the next 35 years, Dick served primarily as a Construction Engineering Officer.  He served in Whitehorse, Edmonton, Kingston, and Halifax before being appointed as Commanding Officer of 1 Field Squadron in Petawawa ON (1966-68). After Petawawa, he went on to National Defence Headquarters with the Director General Works, followed by CFB Borden as the Base Technical Services Officer. Dick then served in Lahr Germany as the SSO Construction Engineer of Canadian Forces Europe and BCEO of Lahr. He returned to Canada to CFB TRenton with Canadian Forces Training Systems Headquarters as SSO Quartering and DCoS Technical Services. Dick then returned to National Defence Headquarters with Director General Works for his last posting. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1982 and then went on to serve for 10 years with NATO. After his second retirement, Dick and Carole spent the next 30 years between Arizona in the winter and Kingston in the summer, enjoying life to its fullest, including many rounds of golf and long morning walks.

    A private funeral was held by the family. A Celebration of Life is planned at a future date.
