We regret to advise of the death of Aviator Matthew Robert Jamieson, age 33, in a car accident near Kingston, ON on Sunday, 1 December 2019. Matthew was a member of 144 Construction Engineering Flight in Pictou, NS.
Born in New Glasgow NS, Matthew joined 144 Construction Engineering Flight Pictou in May 2018 upon enrollment into the Canadian Armed Forces. He completed his RCAF Reserve Basic Military Qualification training at 5th Canadian Division Training Centre Detachment in Aldershot, NS in August 2018 and received the ‘Top Candidate’ award at graduation. Upon completion of this training Matthew worked in the Flight Orderly Room of 144 Construction Engineering Flight (CEF) Pictou as part of 14 Construction Engineering Squadron headquartered in Bridgewater, NS.
While employed at 144 CEF Pictou, Mathew was the first to volunteer his services and showed his desire to serve and enhance his military knowledge. He had been selected to participate as a member of Exercise Maple Resolve in Wainwright AB in May of 2019. Matthew was attending his Human Resource Administrator Qualification Level 3 course in Canadian Forces Base Borden at the time of his tragic accident.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, 13 December 2019 from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home 256 King Street, New Glasgow NS from where a memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. from the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow in the funeral home.
