We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Ross J. Wagg (Ret'd) on March 2009.
Ross was a veteran of the Second World War. He enlisted in February 1941 in Toronto and was assigned to the Royal Canadian Engineers. Qualified as a Sapper, Pioneer and Driver Operator, he landed in Normandy on D-Day with the 6th Field Company.
The 6th Field Company supported the 7th Canadian Infantry Brigade at Courseulles-sur-Mer on Juno Beach. One platoon was divided between the Regina Rifle Regiment and Royal Winnipeg Rifles, landing with the infantry and clearing obstacles that blocked the advance. The unit's broader tasks included clearing minefields and providing engineer support as the Canadians moved inland. Ross served with that unit until the end of the war when he returned to Canada.
Ross settled in Toronto and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. {dcMar17}[zsd, zcc, zpp]
