After more than 20 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, MWO M.D.A. Carter, CD, (00307) will retire on 24 August 2026.

Master Warrant Officer Matthew D. A. Carter, CD has served in the Canadian Armed Forces since 19 January 2006 as a member of the Regular Force. He is a Canadian Military Engineer specializing as a Construction Engineering Superintendent (CE SUPT).
Originally from Kentville, Nova Scotia, MWO Carter began his military career in the Primary Reserve with The West Nova Scotia Regiment before transferring to the Regular Force and
joining the Canadian Military Engineers. He completed his basic and occupational training at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) in Oromocto, New Brunswick, where he developed a strong foundation in technical and leadership competencies.
Throughout his career, MWO Carter has held a wide variety of technical, instructional, and leadership appointments. His postings include CFB Trenton, CFB Cold Lake, the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS) in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, and 4 Engineer Support Regiment (4 ESR) in Oromocto. He has also served at CFSME as a Squadron Sergeant-Major (SSM), directly supporting the training and professional development of Canadian Military Engineers.
Operationally, MWO Carter has deployed internationally in support of Operation IMPACT in the Middle East in 2016 and Operation REASSURANCE in Eastern Europe from 2021 to 2022.
These deployments contributed to his experience in engineer support operations, multinational environments, and operational readiness.
Promoted to Master Warrant Officer on 15 July 2024, MWO Carter is recognized for his professionalism, discipline, and commitment to institutional excellence. His honours include the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD), the NATO Special Service Medal, the General Service Medal – Expedition, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (Provincial), and the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal.
MWO Carter will retire on 24 August 2026 after 20 years of service. He will remain in the Gagetown Area with his wife Allyssa, daughter Brooke, and son Oliver.
