Citation

At dawn on May 1, 1983, Pte. Jeffery Campbell and Mr. Kenneth Jarvin rescued a man from his burning car on the Trans-Canada Highway near Kamloops, British Columbia. The man had fallen asleep at the wheel of his car. It left the highway, crashed through a fence, rolled over and caught fire. Arriving on the scene, Kenneth Jarvin attempted to approach the vehicle but was forced to retreat when the fire, which was burning near the gas tank, suddenly flared up and engulfed the back seat. Another motorist, Pte. Campbell, came to assist and, upon learning someone was trapped inside, ran to the driver's side of the car. Finding the door jammed shut, he cleared the broken glass from the window, reached through the thick smoke, seized the semi-conscious driver and, with Mr. Jarvin's help, pulled him out and dragged him a safe distance from the inferno.
