From the moment he enrolled in the Primary Reserve of 2 Field Engineer Regiment in Toronto to his final Regular Force posting with the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations in New York City, Lieutenant-Colonel Kevin Ng thoroughly enjoyed his almost 37 years of service with the Canadian Armed Forces. This fantastic journey spanned Canada, US, Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific. He will carry with him very fond CHIMO memories as he becomes a DND civilian, joining the Defence Enhanced Surveillance from Space Project (DESS-P), on 1 August 2022.
Inspired by the many great NCOs who trained him in the early days, LCol Ng never forgot what it was like to be at the end of a Bailey panel carry-handle. He was always ready to “jump into whatever battle trench” he was assigned, whether it was in the Mattawa Plains or Washington, DC, although the former would be a lot easier to dig in.
Along the way, LCol Ng has been blessed with a staunch Niner Domestic, Debbie, and many invaluable trench buddies, partners, and mentors, some of whom may regret encouraging him to become a combined joint information warrior. And yes, he has been called a unicorn – a Canadian Army officer who is a graduate of the USAF Joint Command and Staff Program, Joint Air and Space Operations qualified, and has extensive combined joint experience at the strategic and operational levels. Thank goodness, a unicorn was exactly what DESS-P was seeking, hence the launch of his second career into the final frontier!
