After more than 24 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, WO J.J. Groenenberg has retired on 15 July 2026.

WO Jeff Groenenberg enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on July 8th, 2002, in London, Ontario as an Electrical Generating Systems (EGS) Technician. He completed his basic training at St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu in September 2002, upon completion was transferred to CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick, Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering to complete his QL 3. He graduated in December 2003 and then was posted to 86 ASU, 8 Wing CFB Trenton and in 2011 was posted to 22 Wing CFB North Bay Construction Engineers as the EGS Supervisor. In June 2015, he was promoted to Sergeant and positioned as the Base Utilities Officer. In 2016, he was posted to Garrison Petawawa, 2 Combat Engineer Regiment, Construction Troop as the EGS Supervisor. Upon his promotion to WO in 2022, WO Groenenberg was posted to Real Properties Operations Unit (West), Det Calgary as the Detachment Construction Engineering Officer, and lastly posted to Real Properties Operations Unit (West) Section Edmonton.
During his career as an EGS Tech, he deployed to various locations such as CFS Alert, Kashechewan Ontario, Jacmel Haiti, Mirage UAE, Afghanistan, Ukraine and Latvia.
WO Groenenberg has been married for 20 years to Audrey, and have two boys, Grady (13) and Riddick (10). Upon retirement, the Groenenberg’s will be settling down in the small town of Rimbey Alberta area to live and enjoy the country setting once again.
