After more than 27 years of dedicated and loyal service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Capt L.A. Mirea, CD, (00181) retired from the CAF on 28 March 2025.
Capt Mirea enrolled in the CAF in November 1997, beginning a distinguished and action-packed career that took him across Canada and around the globe. Among the many highlights of his service, are deployments to Afghanistan and his impressive accomplishments within the Combat Diver, Airborne, and EOD communities - because why settle for one high-risk specialty when you can master three?
Throughout his career, Capt Mirea was known for his steady leadership, solid professionalism, and unwavering commitment to his team. He has been a mentor to many, a trusted colleague to all, and a calming presence (with just the right amount of sarcasm) in every unit he’s served.
To honour Capt Mirea’s contributions and give him the send-off he truly deserves, a Departure with Dignity ceremony will be held on 31 May 2025 at 1300 hrs in Ottawa. All colleagues, friends, and fellow adventurers are warmly invited to attend.
For the location, more information or to confirm your attendance (RSVP NLT 19 May 2025), please contact Maj Nicolas Laroche at:Nicolas.Laroche2@forces.gc.ca. Accommodation options are being coordinated for those traveling from outside the Ottawa area - because no one should miss out on a good story.
Messages, anecdotes, and well wishes can also be sent to Maj Laroche for inclusion in the ceremony - yes, even the embarrassing ones (especially those!).
Let’s come together to celebrate a career well served and toast Capt (Ret’d) Mirea’s next bold adventure.
