WO Scott Thompson, CD

    After more than 28 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, WO Scott Thompson, CD, will retire on 15 May 2023. Anecdotes and retirement wishes may be sent to WO J.S. Morin at Sebastien.Morin3@forces.gc.ca.


    WO Scott Thompson joined the Canadian Armed Forces with the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada on 01 March 1995. Most of his time in the Black Watch was spent in A Coy within an infantry section, weapons detachment, recce section as well as teaching various courses at the regimental and brigade levels.

    In 2000, WO Thompson component transferred to the Regular Force and then occupational transferred to the Field Engineers. In 2001, WO Thompson completed the initial Field Engineer training at CFSME in Gagetown and was posted to 2 CER in Petawawa. WO Thompson spent time in every squadron while at 2 CER: in 24 and 23 Field Sqns as a section member to Tp Recce Sgt; in 28 Adm Sqn SQMS; in 25 Sp Sqn as an EOD/IEDD Operator and section commander and as Resource Tp section commander, Recce Sgt, and Sqn Ops Sgt.

    In 2013, WO Thompson was posted to NATOs Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium, where he was employed as a Watchkeeper/Operations NCO as part of the Crisis Operation Management Team (COMT) in the Comprehensive Crisis Operational Readiness Center (CCOMC).

    WO Thompson was posted back to Canada in 2016 to 1 CER in Edmonton. While in 1 CER, he was employed as a Field Tp WO, EOD/IEDD Tp WO, and SQMS. In 2019, WO Thompson was posted to Canadian Maneuver Training Center (CMTC) in Wainwright. At CMTC, WO Thompson spent time as an Observer Controller Trainer (OCT) and as the Operations WO. In 2022, WO Thompson was posted back to 1 CER and employed in the Regimental Headquarters as the regimental training WO.

    WO Thompson has deployed on:

    • OP RECOUPERATION (Ice Storm), Quebec, 1998;
    • OP ATHENA Roto 0, Afghanistan, 2003-2004, Field Section Member;
    • OP ATHENA TF3-06, Afghanistan, 2006-2007, Field Section 2I/C;
    • OP ATHENA TF1-10, Afghanistan, 2010, EOD/IEDD Operator;
    • OP REASURANCE (ICE), Latvia, 2020-2021

    WO Thompson will retire from the CAF on 15 May 2023 after more than 28 years of service.
