We regret to advise of the death of Master Warrant Officer Robert Sidney Shaw, MMM, CD (Ret’d) on 28 June 2019, at Hospice House in Fredericton, NB after a lengthy illness.
Bob was born in North Sydney, NS in 1942. He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers at 19 and dedicated over 31 years to serving his country. His postings included: 2 Field Squadron in Canadian Forces Base Gagetown, Oromocto NB, 1 Field Squadron in CFB Petawawa ON, 3 Field Squadron in CFB Chilliwack, 5e Escadron du génie du Canada in CFB Valcartier QC and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal School at CFB Borden ON. Bob was one of the early Combat Divers and completed the Combat Diver Land Force course in 1966, participated in the original Army Diver Trial L-1/66 and was qualified as a Shallow Water Diver Land Force Supervisor in 1977.
Bob became a Member of the Order of Military Merit in 1972 in recognition of his exceptional service and performance of duty. Throughout his life Bob volunteered as a hockey and basketball coach, was a leader with Scouts Canada for over 25 years, a member of the Knights of Columbus and held several volunteer positions within his church. Bob was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, 3 July 2019 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Saint Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Thursday, 4 July at 12:05 pm followed by a reception in the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre.
