WO Murray Gauthier, CD

    WO Gauthier joined the Military on July 15 1983 as a Cook. After basic training WO Gauthier went to Borden for trades training and was subsequently posted to Halifax spending 8 years in Halifax 5 years on ships. In 1992 he re-mustered to the PERI trade and on completion of his QL5, was posted to CFB Shearwater. In 1995 he was posted to 4 Wing Cold Lake. In 1997 upon the demise of the PERI trade he once again remustered, this time to the Engineers as an ED Technician.

    He completed his QL3 in Chilliwack, BC and subsequently remained in Cold Lake. In 1998 he was deployed to Aviano on Operation Allied Force. Upon completion of his QL 5a Course, in 2002 he deployed to Camp Mirage on Operation Apollo, where he was promoted to MCpl. In 2005 he completed a deployment to Kandahar and Kabul, Afghanistan. In 2006, he was promoted to Sgt, and posted to 1 CER, Edmonton as the Senior Electrician with the Construction Troop. In 2008 he was posted back to Cold Lake and was promoted to his current rank in 2010.

    He has deployed to Aviano, Italy, Camp Mirage, Middle East, participated in the Ice Storm recovery operations, deployed to Alert, as well as Kabul and Kandahar, Afghanistan.

    He is a very active athletic member of the military, playing numerous sports including hockey, ball hockey, broomball, basketball, volleyball, and softball. He also coaches and officiates in many varieties of sports and has participated in close to 100 regional championships and 11 National Championships as a player, coach and official. He has 2 children, a daughter Angela, 21 and an 18 year old son named Jason.

    Murray will remain in Cold Lake area where he has taken the opportunity to continue with his passion, as the Colonel JJ Parr (Fitness Center) Facility Coordinator. He officially retires 26 Oct 10.
