WO Harold Joseph Frances "Hal " Hickford, CD (Ret'd)

    We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer Harold Joseph Frances "Hal " Hickford, CD (Ret'd) on 15 January 2018 at age 86 at the Abbotsford Care Home in Abbotsford BC. 

    Hal enrolled in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals  in 1948 and took his basic and advanced training in Kingston ON. He became a Sapper in 1952 when he remustered to the Royal Canadian Engineers. Hal’s postings included Germany (1953-55) followed by 2 Field Squadron - first in Gagetown NB and then remaining with the unit until 1961 after it moved to Chilliwack BC.  Hal then became a Career Manager  at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa with the Directorate of Personnel Ottawa (1961- 65) after which he was posted to the Works Company in Camp Wainright AB (1965-66). From Wainright Hal deployed to Egypt with the United Nations Emergency Force (1966 -67). Returning to Canada to Chilliwack, he took his release from the Canadian Forces in 1968. For his second career, Hal moved to Vernon where he worked for the City for years as a clerk at City Hall.

    Interment will be held at on 6 May 2018 at 11: 00 am at the Vedder View Gardens Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Chilliwack Royal Canadian Legion Branch 280 on 6 May at 1:00 pm. Facebook condolences can be left with the funeral home.
