    We regret to advise of the death of Warrant Officer Glen Earl  Poppe, CD (Ret’d) of Comox BC, suddenly on 2 August 2023 at age 57.

    Glen enrolled in the Canadian Forces in Vancouver BC in March 1986. After graduating from the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Battle School in Wainwright AB, he was posted to 1PPCLI in Calgary AB. The following year he was transferred to 2PPCLI in Baden-Soellingen, Germany and returned to Winnipeg MB with the unit the next summer. Glen served on United Nations Peacekeeping duties with 2 PPCLI twice in Cyprus (December 1988 to  March 1989 and March to August 1990).

    Glen joined the Canadian Military Engineer Family in December 1992 when he remustered to the Electrician trade. He was posted to Calgary after graduating in July 1993 from his QL3 course at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Gagetown NB. Three years later, Glen was posted to 4 Engineer Support Regiment’s 1 Area Construction Troop in Edmonton. While there, he participated in the UNPROFOR mission at Coralici, Bosnia-Herzegovina (January - July 1997). He also participated in the UNMIBH mission at Visoko, Bosnia-Herzegovina (February - September 2000)

    With his posting to Canadian Forces Base Comox in March 2001, Glen joined the Air Force and returned to his British Columbia roots. While in Comox, he participated in several deployments, including the SWASM mission in the Middle East (December 2001 - July 2002). Following this was a tour at Canadian Forces Station Alert (June 2004 - February 2005). Shortly after his return from Alert, Glen was paart of a Theatre Support Element task in Kabul, Afghanistan in May 2005. He participated in another Theatre Support Element tasking in Kandahar, Afghanistan (January - February 2006) shortly after he was promoted to Warrant Officer in January 2006.

    Glen was posted to CFB Esquimalt in July 2006 for what was to be his final posting in uniform. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 2008 and, for a second career, accepted a public service position as the Facilities Manager at CFB Esquimalt’s detachment in Nanoose Bay.
