    We regret to advise of the death of Sapper John Anthony “Tony” LaRusic (Ret’d) at home in Taigh‘na Mara, Glace Bay, NS on 23 June 2009 at the age of 95 years.

    Tony was born in Bay St. Lawrence, Victoria County, NS.  He was a veteran of the Second World War who served in the Royal Canadian Engineers.  He saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.  Tony was a carpenter by trade and worked in the forest in his early years, later working in Sydney, NS for Chappell’s Ltd.   He stayed in England after the war and worked for Odhams Limited in Watford until 1959 when he and his family returned to Canada and he rejoined his former employer, Chappell for a year.  He then went to work  as an airport attendant with the Department of Transport at Sydney, NS Airport until his retirement.  

    At Tony’s request, there will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, Sydney at 10:00 AM on 25 June with interment to take place on 26 June at 11:00 AM in St. Margaret’s Cemetery, St. Margaret’s Village, NS.  Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.  {dcMay2017gd} [zsd, zsp]
