    We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Leon Prosper Roy (Ret'd) peacefully at home in Chilliwack BC on 2 December 2002 at the age of 80.

    Born in Shaunavon SK, Leon moved with his family during the Depression years to Meadow Lake SK.  He joined the Royal Canadian Engineers during WW II and underwent training at Camp Chilliwack before deploying to Europe.  He participated in the Normandy Invasion and after two years in Northwest Europe returned home to Chilliwack and was demobilised.  Over the next 60 years, Leon touched the lives of many people in the Chilliwack area as the founder of the Cottonwood Service Station in the early 50s, as a mechanic at Cheam Automotive and as a mechanic at the Canex Service Station at the Canadian Forces Base Chilliwack.  He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus in Chilliwack.

    A funeral service will be held on 5 December at St Mary's Catholic Church, Chilliwack.  Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. {gdApr2016kh}
