We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Keith Andrew “Bookie” Stewart (Ret’d) of Keremeous BC on Saturday, 16 June 2018, at the age of 73 years.
Keith was born in Wokingham, England and came to Canada in 1946. He joined the Canadian Army in 1961 with the 10th Intake of the Sapper Apprentice Program and completed the two-year training program at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack, BC. After three more years of service he took his release from the Canadian Forces and returned to Penticton, BC in 1966.
Keith became an Architectural Draftsman. Returning to night school, he began pursuing a career in the construction industry and worked for many construction companies throughout his career. Known to many of his friends in the construction field as “Bookie” - a name that stuck even after retirement. While living on Quadra Island, he honed his artistic skills in many media from wood carving, pen & ink, scrimshaw, and photography. Keith retired in 2011 and moved to the rural area near Keremeos, BC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, 29 July 2018, at the Royal Canadian Legion [ 502 Martin Street, Penticton, BC] from 1-3 pm. There will be a later Celebration of Life on Quadra Island on Sunday, 19 August from 2-4 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #40. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to The Royal Canadian Legion of their choice. Condolences may be sent to the Funeral Home.
