Spr John William McConnell (Ret'd)

We regret to advise of the death of John William McConnell on 14 October 2014. John was born in Chilliwack, BC in 1943 and was raised on several farms in the area. He left school in Grade 9 and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1962. After his basic training He was posted to 3 Field Squadron and followed shortly with a two-year tour to Germany with 4 Field Squadron. Upon completion of this tour he returned to Chilliwack and took his release in 1965.
John's civilian careers saw him first in the Yukon where he worked in an asbestos mine before making his way to Edmonton where he began his career as a plumber. In 1986 the family moved to Toronto so John could acquire his journeyman plumber certification. After earning his certification he moved back to Chilliwack. In 1996 John and his wife Norma also took over the management of the Golden West Motel until they both retired in 2005.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, 19 October at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 6300 Tyson Road Chilliwack BC. A reception to meet with the family will be held at the church prior to the service from 9:00 - 9:50 am. Interment will be at the Chilliwack Cemetery following the funeral. {khApr2016}
