We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Howard Ivan “Smiling Ivan” Dorey (Ret’d) of Liverpool, NS on 1 January 2006 at the age of 79 years.

Howard was a Royal Canadian Engineer veteran of the Second World War and served from 1943 until 1945.  During the war, he took part in many performances entertaining the troops.

After the war, Howard embarked on a successful career in the music industry that took him to Kirkland Lake and Orillia, ON, Montreal, QC and back to Nova Scotia.  He was inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. Howard was also a lifetime member of the Friends of Hank Snow Society and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Mersey Branch in Liverpool.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in care of the Friends of Hank Snow Society, Liverpool. ^{{dcJan19gd} [zsd, zsp]}
