-
We regret to advise of the death of Sapper George Gillespie Ruby (Ret’d) on 2 January 2019 at Woodland Tower in Stratford, ON in his 97th year following a brief illness.
A long-time business owner in Stratford, George was born in Milbank, ON in 1922 and came to Stratford with his family in the early 1930s. During the Depression his father supported the family making eavestroughs and eventually expanded into plumbing and formed Ruby Plumbing and Heating, Inc. where George was the Master Plumber. George eventually became the owner of the business at the corner of North and Water Street in Stratford where many generations of Ruby’s lived at various times.
George spent a brief stint in the Canadian Army in 1944 with the Royal Canadian Engineers at A6 Canadian Engineer Training Centre in Chilliwack, BC training as a Combat Engineer but World War II ended before he had to go overseas.
The family requests that donations be made to Spruce Lodge Foundation at: www.sprucelodge.on.ca or through the Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services website at www.jarfh.com in support of projects to benefit the entire community at Woodland Tower.
A private graveside service and interment has been held in Avondale Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent to the Funeral Home.
