We regret to advise of the death of Sapper Bryan Edward Dudley (Ret'd) on 5 December 2021 at the age of 79 years.

Bryan was born in Orillia ON and graduated from Toronto’s Western Technical-Commercial Trade School as a Mechanic in 1959 at age 17. Wanting adventure, he enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1960 and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers. Brian served with the RCE as a Field Engineer for 10 years in locations that included Chilliwack BC, Petawawa ON,  Montreal QC and Werl, West Germany.

In his early training, Bryan was on a painting course when it was determined that he was allergic to paint.  He was then assigned to the Northwest Highway System in the Yukon where he worked on bridge building and road improvements to upgrade the Northwest Highway (formerly the Alaska Highway) before it was turned over to the Department of Public Works. That set him in the direction of being a Field Engineer.

In Germany, Bryan enjoyed skiing and racing the club’s BSA Gold Star motorcycles on the Nuremberg Ring. That love of motorcycles continued through to his retirement when he and his wife, Emmi spent long hours on their Harley Davidson motorcycle riding the open roads of Canada and the USA, often attending charitable rallies from coast to coast.

After his retirement from the Canadian Forces in 1970, Bryan settled in the Chilliwack area and worked for more than 30 years at the Matsqui/Abbotsford, BC waterworks. Bryan also worked as a Civil Works Inspector with Opus DaytonKnight Consultants Ltd. and OnSite Engineering Ltd.

    Funeral services were private.
