MCpl Shawna Thomas joined the military in Winnipeg, MB on 5 Oct 88 as a Teletype Operator. Her first posting upon completion of trades training landed her in 764 Communication Squadron, Ottawa, ON. She remained a teletype operator and moved to various locations until Dec 1999 where she resided in Edmonton, AB as a Signal Operator with 1 Headquarters and Signals Squadron Edmonton. While in Edmonton, she completed two extended tours in Bosnia, obtained her jump wings Mar 2000, gold medalist for the Women’s National Hockey 2000, regional women’s hockey 2000-2003 championships, participated in the Mountain Man in 2001 and placed second overall in the female category, at 6hrs 28mins, and 38 out of 250. In Mar 2003, MCpl Thomas did an AVOTP to the Fire Fighter trade where she completed OJT at CFB Edmonton Fire hall until her QL3’s later that year. Upon completion of her QL5’s, 2005, she was posted to HMCS Regina, Victoria, BC. While serving at sea, Cpl Thomas served on board during Rimpac 2006, West ploy 2006 and South ploy 2007 operations. During 2008, she completed her Fire Prevention and Life Safety career course and QL6A’s before taking a position as the Area Fire Inspector at ASU Chilliwack 5 Aug 08. MCpl Shawna Thomas has accepted an indeterminate position at FMF as a Safety and Environment Inspector – in Victoria, BC. She will commence her new career 1 Jun 09 and plans to remain in the area with her spouse Jacqueline Wilson and their three little dogs.
