Sgt Yvon Bourassa, CD (Ret’d)

We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Yvon Bourassa, CD (Ret’d) peacefully on 31 January 2023 at the age of 82.
Born in St-Severin-de-Proulxville QC, Yvon joined the Canadian Forces in March 1959 as an Infantryman and served as such until remustering to become a Field Engineer in May 1969. Prior to his remustering to Field Engineer, he served a six-month tour in UNIFCYP, the United Nations peacekeeping force Cyprus in 1968-69.
Following his Field Engineer Trade Qualifying course at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering in Chilliwack BC, he was posted to the 5e Escadron de génie du Canada in Valcartier QC. His career was served primarily in Valcartier and within the Heavy Equipment Troop as an operator and Troop Sergeant. Yvon also served a posting with the Base Valcartier Construction Engineering Section as supervisor of the Roads and Ground organisation.
Yvon participated in various Northern Airfield construction projects including Mittimatalik (Pond Inlet) NU in 1973 and Taloyoak (Spence Bay) NU in 1978. He also participated in several Northern Canada exercises but more remarkably those at Churchill MB, Saglek Bay NL and Goose Bay NL. He also deployed with the squadron to Montreal as part of the security force at the 1976 Olympic Games. Yvon retired from the Canadian Forces in January 1986 after 27 years of loyal and dedicated service.
Visitation will take place at the St-Amand and Sons funeral home, Saint-Louis Boulvard, St-Severin-de-Prouxville, QC on 11 February from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM followed by the funeral service. Burial will take place at a later date in the St-Severain cemetary.
