Sgt Sylvain Lacas, CD, will be retiring on 19 august 2011 after completing 21 years of dedicated service to the Canadian Forces.
Sgt Lacas joined the CF in May 1990. Upon completion of his basic training in St-Jean, he completed his trade qualification as artilleryman in Shilo Manitoba.
He is then transferred to Valcartier 5 Regiment d’Artillerie Légère du Canada. He completed successfully several courses as command post technician, observation post, paratrooper and many more. He participated in several missions, Yugoslavia in 1995 with the United Nations, Port au Prince Haiti in 1996 and Bosnia in 1998 with the SFOR. He obtained his promotion of MBdr in 2000.
He remustered as plumbing & heating technician, 00304, in 2001. After his TQ3, he is posted to 5 Combat Engineer Regiment in Valcartier where he will take a lot of experience and will completed his TQ5 and TQ6 superintendent course.
He is promoted to the rank of Mcpl in the summer of 2007 just before leaving for a mission in Afghanistan. Its task was the maintenance in Kaf and was in charge of the engineer section for Wilson camp.
On return of his mission, he was transferred to Bagotville as foreman for the Base Plumbing and Heating. He is promoted to the rank of Sgt in 2009. He receives a temporary affectation for 1 year to the Garrison Engineer Service in Valcartier as inspector to the contract section.
In 2011 summer, he is posted to the Garrison Engineer Service in Valcartier as planner for the AMLOC projects. He will be retiring after more than 21 years of service and has taken a job to the city of Quebec heating system.
Sgt Lacas is happy to dedicate its time to his family, his spouse Nancy and his 8 years old daughter, Jade.
