After more than 19 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Engineer Branch, Sgt R.J. Peters, CD, (00339) will retire on 19 June 2025. Sgt Reginald Peters was born in Moncton, N.B. and grew up in Elsipogtog First Nation NB. Reggie enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) on 01 September 2005, completing his DP1 Combat Engineer training on 21 June 2006.
Sgt Peters first posting was to 4 Engineer support Regiment (4 ESR) where he filled the positions as a section member and driver. In January of 2007, he deployed on his first operational tour to Afghanistan where he was a section member in 2 Tp. Upon his return, he was selected to attend the Heavy Equipment Operator Course (HEOC) at Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME). Upon completion of the HEOC, he was posted to 16 Heavy Equipment Troop
where he continued to hone his skills as an equipment operator.
In July of 2009, Sgt Peters was selected for a posting to 1 Engineer Equipment Troop (EET) in Wainwright, AB as an operator. Sgt Peters enjoyed his time in 1 EET, however he was posted back to Gagetown in the fall of 2011. He was posted to CFSME for a first tenure within Hy Eqpt Tp as an operator/stores person. It was during this time that he was able to complete the Crane and Grader specialties for his heavy equipment training. He was then again posted to 4 ESR in 2016. During this time, he realized his passion for leadership and instruction so he decided to continue their military education by completing his Primary Leadership Qualification (PLQ) in 2017 and DP 3A in 2020. During this time in 4 ESR, he was again deployed, however this time to complete a TAV for Op REASSURANCE.
In July of 2021. Sgt Peters was again posted to CFSME, this time as a Heavy Equipment instructor. During this period, his highlight was the opportunity to coordinate and administer the HEOC for the summer of 2023.
During his time in the CAF, they have deployed on operations twice, OP ATHENA 2007 and OP REASSURANCE 2017. He has also been employed on OP LENTUS in 2019, after Hurricane Dorian to support local emergency crews with debris clean up.
Sgt Peters is married to his Wife Deanna and together they have two children, Lane and Paisley. Sgt Peters intends on remaining in the local area of Oromocto and continue to support his wife and their children’s endeavours.
