    Sgt Mathieu “Matt” Ayotte, CD retired from the Canadian Military Engineers on 31 March 2018 after 17 years of loyal and dedicated service in Canada and Afghanistan.

    Matt was born in Lahr, Germany.  He completed high school in 2001 and received a Police Technology Certificate from Algonquin College in 2004. Matt enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in 2001 with 3 Field Engineer Squadron (now 33 CER).

    Matt completed QL3 at CFSME in 2001, and QL5 in 2003 at CFSME.  In 2004 he was promoted to Corporal in 2004 then went to 2CER in Petawawa for workup training for JTF Afghanistan.  In August 2005, he deployed to Afghanistan with 2CER, Task Force Kabul.  After returning from Afghanistan, he was awarded the GCS-SWA.  In 2011 he completed PLQ and was promoted to Master Corporal, then in 2012 he completed DP3A at CFSME and was promoted to Sergeant in 2013.

    Members of 33 CER will be hosting an informal Depart with Dignity ceremony for Sgt Ayotte to celebrate his years in uniform.  Matt has a passion for racing, so we could not have his DwD without some racing.  Here are the details:
