We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Marshall Matthews "Marsh" Blythe, CD (Ret’d), of Chilliwack BC, on 21 May 2022.
Marsh enlisted in the Canadian Forces with the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1957 and undertook his basic Field Engineer training at the Royal Canadian School of Military Engineering in Vedder Crossing, BC. This was the start of a full career of more than 30 years as a Combat Engineer with a Combat Diver specialty.
Marsh's first posting was to 3 Field Squadron in Vedder Crossing and he was to eventually spend all but eight years of his career in Chilliwack either in the Squadron/Regiment or in Base Ops. Other postings included 1 Field Squadron (2 Combat Engineer Regiment) in Petawawa ON, 2 Field Squadron in Gagetown NB, and 4 Field Squadron (4CER) in Germany. Marsh was generally in the Unit Diving Section in these units. He had received his initial Combat Diving qualification on the first Combat Diver Land Force course in 1966 and had participated in the Combat Diver Trial in 1 Field Squadron. March's last posting was with 1 CER from where he retired after a tour as the curator of the Canadian Military Engineers Museum.
Funeral arrangements will be advised when known.
