Sgt Ken Munro, CD

    Sergeant Ken Munro enrolled in the Canadian Forces on 12 April 1990 as an Artilleryman and on completion of training was posted to 119th Air Defence Battery, CFB Chatham NB. In 1995 Sgt Munro made a career change to Vehicle Technician and was posted to CFB Edmonton where he served with 1 Service Battalion completing a deployment in Kosovo under NATO Command in 1999. He continued to serve as a vehicle technician moving from 1 Service Battalion to 1 Combat Engineer Regiment. In 2002 he made another change in his career becoming a firefighter and remained posted to CFB Edmonton until 2006. When in Edmonton Sgt Munro received a CDS Commendation for his outstanding response and actions at a mass motor vehicle accident while serving his community as a volunteer firefighter.

    With a short posting to CFB Cold Lake AB and back to Edmonton in 2009 he was promoted to sergeant and posted to CFB Esquimalt serving on board HMCS Vancouver. Serving 3 years with the navy, he sailed extensively including a deployment on OP Sirius in the Mediterranean. In 2012 when he was posted to CFB Comox.

    With over 22 years of dedicated service in the Canadian Forces, Sgt Munro has once again decided on a career change. He will be retiring from the military on 4 December 2012 and starting a second career as a firefighter in Fort McMurray AB. He and his wife Lana, will continue to live in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island with their kids as he travels to and from his new workplace in Alberta.
