After more than 17 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Sgt J.D. Huntington, CD, will retire on 27 September 2024. A DWD ceremony will be held at Centre Castor in Valcartier on 26 September 2024 at 12:00. Sgt Daniel Huntington was born on October 30th, 1973, in Chandler in the Gaspésie region of Quebec. In March 2007, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces in Quebec City as a Geomatics Technician. Graduated from Algonquin College in Ottawa in geomatics in 2010, he then joined the geomatics support team at Mapping and Charting Establishment (MCE) in Ottawa where he deployed to New Zealand in support of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Since July 2012, he has been a member of the 5th Combat Engineer Regiment (5 CER) in Valcartier, Quebec where he deployed to Alberta, New Brunswick, California and Portugal. In 2015, thanks to his graphics skills, he designed the logo for the 5 CER Geomatics Troop. He was an instructor for the Reserve Geomatics course at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) Gagetown, NB, in 2016. Upon his arrival in Valcartier, he joined the regimental running team until 2017, where he contributed to the training of the team’s runners.
Finally, he was a support platoon supervisor at St-Jean-sur-Richelieu Transition Centre. from 2020 to 2022. He completes his military service at the Real Property Operations Unit (RPOU) Valcartier where he collaborated on geomatics production.
He participated in OPERATION LENTUS during the regional floods and has one overseas deployment, OPERATION REASSURANCE in Latvia.
Throughout his career, Sgt Huntington has relied heavily on the support of his family, especially his spouse, Karine Lauzon.
