Sgt James Way

    After 14 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Sgt James Way, (bio attached), retired 7 May, 2016.  A Depart with Dignity Ceremony will take place at the Castle Wood Pub Edmonton, on 24 Jun 2016 at 1300hrs.  Attendees are requested to advise the OPI of their planned attendance NLT 17 June 2016.  Anecdotes or retirement wishes may be sent to the OPI by e-mail.

    Sgt James Way was born in Hamilton Ontario on the 12th of March 1976. He joined the CF on 1 April 1999 in Hamilton Ontario as a Field Engineer.

    After basic training in St Jean Sur Richelieu Quebec, he continued on with his DP1 at 2CER Petawawa On. Upon completion of his training he was posted to 1CER Edmonton Ab. He deployed to Bosnia in February 2001 as a Sapper. Afterwards he continued to serve at 1CER until he released from the CF in July 2005. He came to his senses in January 2009 and rejoined the CF. He was then sent back to 1CER where he was promoted to MCpl and placed in the armoured troop. In March 2009 he deployed to Afghanistan with TF1-09 as a Det Commander. And in November 2010 he deployed to Afghanistan again, this time with TF3-10 as a Det Commander. He was promoted to Sgt in December 2011. In February 2013 he was posted to JPSU for his health, where continued to serve until his release.

    Jim and his wife Heidi plan to relocate to British Columbia where they can start a new home and a new business.
