    After more than 14 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, Sgt G.E. Dawson, CD, will retire on 03 March 2024. Anecdotes and well wishes may be sent to Sgt T.C. Johnson at Tyler.Johnson3@forces.gc.ca.


    Sgt Dawson joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2009 as a direct entry to the Electrical Distribution trade with 13 years’ experience in industry as a licensed electrician.

    In 2010, Sgt Dawson was posted to 4 ACSS at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. From December 2013 through August 2014, he deployed to OS Det Kuwait (later OS Hub Kuwait) where he received the CJOC Commander’s Commendation for the scope and volume of work he completed, including a thorough investigation and report concerning an infrastructure fire on camp. In 2015, at the rank of MCpl, Sgt Dawson was posted to 4 ESR at CFB Gagetown and, a year later, would again deploy to Kuwait as a member of Op IMPACT. From 2017 through 2021, he worked at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering as both a technical instructor and a Section Commander. He was promoted to the rank of Sgt in July 2018.
     
    In 2021, Sgt Dawson returned to 4 ESR. He would later deploy to Latvia on Op REASSURANCE, where he received the Commander’s Coin for his contributions to the mission. Sgt Dawson received the Canadian Forces Decoration in July 2022. With the path to becoming a civilian instructor at CFSME laid out, Sgt Dawson returned to CFSME in August 2023 as a technical instructor. Following his retirement in March 2024, Sgt Dawson will remain at CFSME as a civilian technical instructor.
