    After more than 22 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineers, Sgt Eugene Spencer, CD, will retire on 11 March 2022. At Eugene’s request, friends and colleagues are welcome to attend his Depart with Dignity ceremony at 1300 hrs on 3 March 2022 at Minglers Restaurant in Oromcoto.     Eugene was born in Wolfville, NS, on 6 November 1980. He enrolled in Halifax, NS, on 10 January 2000 as a Combat Engineer. After completing basic training at CFLRS and the QL3 Engineer course, Eugene was posted to 4 ESR in Gagetown, NB. While at 4 ESR, he deployed to Eritrea/Ethiopia and to Afghanistan on Roto 7.

    In 2007, Eugene was posted to the Canadian Maneuver Training Center in Wainwright, AB, as Transport 2IC for COEFOR. His hard work was noticed and he received a Commander’s coin.

    In 2009, he was posted back to CFB Gagetown for a quick one-year stint at the Infantry School as a driver and a driver instructor. In 2010, he was promoted to MCpl and posted to 4 ESR as a Section 2IC and the Sqn MT REP.

    In August 2015, he was posted to CFB Suffield to fill numerous roles; SQ, training NCO, Ops Room IC, and his favorite role while there, the senior patrolman for the annual Base elk hunt. In 2018, Eugene’s final posting would take him back to 4 ESR, where he was promoted to Sgt. Within 42 Horizontal Construction Squadron, he would be the SQ 2IC and storesman, and eventually the Regimental MT REP, his final position.

    Sgt Spencer is now transitioning into civilian life, training as a materials tech within the Regiment. He will remain in the local area with his family following retirement from the CAF.
