We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Donald Arthur Edward “Don” Caldwell (Ret’d) in Ponoka, AB on 7 July 2008 at the age of 90 years.

Don was born in Rainy River, ON and moved with his family to Manitoba as a child.  At the age of 17, during the depression, he moved to Alberta looking for work on the farms, on threshing crews and logging camps. In 1940, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers, 10th Field Squadron and served five years, most of it overseas.  After the war, Don bought a farm in the Fertile Forest District of Ponoka and raised his family. He retired in the mid-seventies and moved into the town of Ponoka.  Don was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #66 in Ponoca.

A family graveside service will precede a celebration of Don’s life at the Ponoka Funeral Home on 12 July at 2:00 PM.   Donations may be made to the Ponoka Jubilee Library or to the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society. {dcMar17gd}[zpi]
